Mic Mac On Song For 2013 Hawkesbury Gold Cup Win

August 20th, 2013

Mic Mac will likely run in the 2013 Hawkesbury Gold Cup at Hawkesbury Racecourse this Thursday August 22, 2013.

He is also nominated for the Group 2 Warwick Stakes, however, trainer Paul Messara believes that the 2013 Hawkesbury Gold Cup will be the better option.

“I’m leaning towards the Hawkesbury race now,” Messara told the Herald Sun.

“The 1400m of the Warwick Stakes probably suits him better but that race has a lot of depth to it.

“The Hawkesbury Cup does look a bit weaker and seems a nice race for Mic Mac.”

Mic Mac has won eight of his 25 race starts and has earned more than $916,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

His latest start resulted in a second placing behind Rain Affair in the Group 3 Missile Stakes.

The Statue Of Liberty gelding won the Listed Civic Stakes earlier this preparation, before placing second in the Listed Winter Stakes on July 20.

“He is five runs into a preparation and he is very fit,” Messara said.

“The mile (1600m) is as far as he wants to go but I think he can run the trip.

“Hopefully he will draw well and he can sit up close to the lead which is an advantage around Hawkesbury.”
