Having contested three races at Group level this time in, Mouro will be offered a key chance to return to the winner’s circle at Hawkesbury this weekend after receiving the gate two at Wednesday’s barrier draw.

Securing seven wins and five places from only 16 race starts to date, Mouro won the Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) first-up in 2014, before finishing an unlucky seventh when blocked for a run in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) on March 22nd.

While unable to handle the heavy going of the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in his most recent appearance, trainer Tony McEvoy is confident the Grand Slam entire will produce a far more polished performance on the firm Hawkesbury track this weekend.

Also confirmed in the final field for the 2014 Hawkesbury Gold Cup is in-form five-year-old Malavio.

Winner of the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m) most notably over a steady 2013 spring preparation, Malavio has arguably been one of the most consistent performers over all levels this time in, finishing fifth in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) first-up before overcoming poor position to finish third in the Ajax Stakes.

Steaming from the back of the field to run on for fourth in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) on April 5th, the Snitzel gelding more than earned his position in the final field for the major Doncaster Mile, and justified selection when overcoming poor positions and a particularly talented field to finish fifth in arguably his best racing performance to date.

While allocated the wide barrier 11 for the 2014 Hawkesbury Gold Cup, trainer Steve Engelbrecht is confident in-form jockey Brenton Avdulla will get the most from his entrant this weekend.

A standout performer of the high achieving Team Hawkes stable this season, Leebaz has finished outside the places just once on eight competitive race starts to date, which have included five impressive victories.

Charging home to win each of his first two races this time in, the Zabeel gelding almost produced the day’s biggest upset when coming within a whisker of winning the Doncaster Prelude last time out, and offers a particularly strong chance of success this weekend with leading jockey James McDonald confirmed to take the ride in the 2014 Hawkesbury Gold Cup.

While unable to figure when ninth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) in his only competitive start this season, Full Of Spirit is a noted performer in autumn races and is likely to receive the run of the race at Hawkesbury this weekend from the central barrier 6.

Strolling home to win the 2012 edition of the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes, Full Of Spirit was unlucky to finish fourth in a fanning finish during the 2012 Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m); more than stamping her claims as one to watch over spring.

Steadily building to the task and finishing second in the Group 2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m) most notably in her proceeding campaign, the Flying Spur mare will be partnered by Linda Meech this weekend.
